We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for coming to our wedding website. It’s just a small glimpse into our lives and for us to share our story with you. So, we hope you enjoy and we will be updating regularly to keep everyone informed.
First things first, we want to thank all our loving family and wonderful friends for all the love, support and guidance that you have given us throughout the years. We wouldn’t be the people we are today without you. |
It was late in 2009, Sam had just come back from an injury that sidelined her for much of the fall, luckily that softball season had been plagued with rain, delaying the end of the softball year and paving the way for the inevitable meeting of the two young has-beens.
On her first night back after weeks on crutches and even longer walking with a limp, she made her appearance at shortstop. On the opposing team, a smack-talking pitcher who couldn’t throw her a hittable pitch was where they spoke their first words to each other… which went something like this: Jamie: “SWING THE BAT!!!” Sam: “IF YOU GAVE ME A PITCH TO HIT, I WOULD”. He walked her twice in that game. We don’t remember who ended up winning that night, but all we do know is we both liked to talk A LOT of trash, and we thought the other was pretty easy to look at, as well.
A few weeks, and more rain, went by. It was December 9th, a Wednesday. Jamie received a message asking if he could sub that night at Frankie Allen Park. Sam received a similar message. Both said “sure”. We ended up subbing on the same team and playing Left Center and Right Center fields. The team wasn’t very good we were playing for, so we spent a lot of our time running around catching and tracking down line-drives and deep fly balls. But in-between those sprints, we managed a decent conversation; we had a lot of time in the field after all. Sam found out he was a Packers fan and from Wisconsin and he found out she was Bears fan who grew up in the south. Regardless of the initial turn off of being fans of each other’s bitter rival, we continued to talk to each other. The game ended and we left without even saying bye to one another.
The next day, somehow managing to finagle a number from a mutual friend (not saying names), Jamie text messaged Sam about playing in a softball tournament. That initial text turned into asking to meet. Since the next morning Sam was leaving for a trip to Chicago and upon returning Jamie would already be gone for his usual 2+ weeks in Wisconsin for the holidays; we decided to meet that night. We had never seen each other outside of softball so we were both pleasantly surprised by the way the other could “clean up”. We had good conversation and cold drinks and left saying we’d talk soon. During the holidays we indeed kept in touch with a few phone calls and text messages. When Jamie got back we decided to go on a date. Our first official date was to a steak house on January 15th, 2010. Since then, we have grown as individuals, best friends and as the loves of each other’s lives. We are so happy and can’t wait to celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together with all our family and friends. |
On April 26, 2011 our son, Bentley Alexander was born. It was the start of our family together, but one more thing had to be done before we were “officially” a family.
Sam’s first Mothers Day was right around the corner on May 8th. Jamie asked himself what could he give her to celebrate, besides Bentley? The Answer was easy….
That morning he told us to get ready, we’re going to go to Stone Mountain Park. We rode up the summit skyride to the top of Stone Mountain, which for those of you who don’t know; it’s the largest piece of exposed granite in the world with an elevation of around 900ft from the ground.
Atop that “Big Rock”, Jamie bent down on one knee pulled out the ring and asked Sam to marry him.
Long story short, she said “Yes”. |
