"I LOVE YOU MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY BUT NOT AS MUCH AS TOMORROW...GROW OLD WITH ME, THE BEST IS YET TO BE!"
Our story began as one that most people would doom from the start. We had our first chance meeting in a small bar called the Side Door on the north side of Columbus. It was women’s pool league night and Art, being the gentleman that he is, offered the ladies of the Cheers Team a ride to the bar across town. Betty arrived at the Side Door shortly after the other girls and noticed Art sitting at their table. Both Art and Betty were just getting out of yet another bad relationship so didn’t really spend any time talking to each other that night. Both took notice of the other just the same. It wasn’t until 2 days later, July 25, 1992, and much better circumstances that Art and Betty bumped into each other once again at Cheers. It was a very hot Saturday afternoon and Betty was taking a break from some yard work to indulge in a game of pool and some well needed air conditioning. Art stopped in after work with some friends for a quick beer when he noticed Betty at the pool table. He remembered her from the Side Door and decided to put some quarters down on the table for a game of chance he hoped would lead to something more interesting. Little did he realize this small gesture would lead to a whole new life for each of them. When Art stepped up to the table to rack his game, Betty couldn’t help but notice his gorgeous blue eyes from across the room and locked in a stare that lasted the remainder of the day. Argument has it that Betty was playing pool exceptionally well that day and beat Art almost every game. Art will tell you he was letting Betty win so he could continue to play against her and spend some time talking and drinking with her. To this very day, that battle still continues. As with all good things, the afternoon had to come to an end. Betty went back to her yard work and told Art she would see him later if he was going to be around. Later that evening, Betty went back to Cheers to meet some friends for Donna’s birthday celebration night out. Betty was pleasantly surprised to see that Art had also come back to Cheers that night. Although Betty and Donna left Cheers to venture out to other bars, they kept returning to Cheers. Each time they returned, Betty found that Art was still there, waiting with a smile and something cold for her to drink. The night went on, the bar closed down but Betty and Art could not bring themselves to to say good night. The more time they spent together the stronger the attraction got. It wasn’t long before people got used to seeing them together and they realized that both their lives were better when they were together. The two became inseparable and soon started working on the issues in both their lives that would make them become better people. If you’ve had the opportunity to spend time with us since the beginning, you know we’ve had our ups and downs, and came close to separating on a couple of occasions. Fortunately, we realized there was enough love between us to come back from the hard times better than ever. We learned over the years the compromise that it takes to keep a relationship strong, the importance of trust, loyalty, affection, patience, kindness, and humor. What didn’t kill us made us stronger. We both discovered the importance of our families. We’ve lost those we love and been there when new were born. Every year that we make it through, we are thankful we found each other and have a life-long best friend that helps us be the best we can be. Think back to Art and Betty before they were a couple. You will realize they were two lost souls searching for each other. This relationship has stood the test of time and is worthy of all your blessings. So, finally 17 years later, all our baggage behind us and a hopeful future ahead of us, we look forward to taking our vows and promise each other that we will spend the rest of our lives together and will let nothing pull us apart.
Betty and Art will be married July 25, 2009 at 10:30 am on Hamoa Beach, Maui, Hawaii.
We will be wed by Reverend Dennis De Rego, a Hawaii Native, who will perform a traditional spiritual Hawaiian Conch Shell and Sand Ceremony Service.
We have arranged for a Video Webcast so those that wish to witness our union will be able to view the ceremony without having to travel the distance to join us. We will post the link to the site here when it is available. Check back periodically.
How appropriate that after a 17 year journey to our wedding, we will be traveling the last 52 miles as individuals down a long and winding road along the scenic east coast of Maui, Hawaii to the beach author James Michenor has sited as one of the most beautiful in the Pacific. Our long journey will end at Hamoa Beach which lies at the end of the Road to Hana and is one of the last undeveloped and natural areas of Hawaii. Below are links so that you can get a visual of the Road to Hana and our destination beach where we will finally be joined forever as a couple and become Mr. and Mrs. George Arthur Griffin. We will be spending the last week of our trip and the beginning of our new life together at the Hamoa Beach House in Hana. See our photo albums if you are interested in seeing our accommodations. I hope you enjoy the slide shows.

Art & Betty would like to invite you to a long awaited celebration to honor both Wedding and Graduation. After 17 long years, we have decided to take the plunge and get married on July 25, 2009. I know, most of you say "It's about time". Also "it's about time", after 8 long years working full time and attending classes, Betty will be graduating from DeVry University on June 21, 2009. She is graduating with honors and will receive her Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology. The Graduation Ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial in Columbus at 2:00 pm. Immediately following the graduation ceremony, we will be hosting a party at the Gardens at Gantz for food and fun. Since our wedding will take place in Maui, Hawaii, we decided this celebration would also honor our upcoming wedding. Please join us for this dual celebration on June 21, 2009. This is an outdoor party and you should dress comfortably for summer weather. There are plenty of tables, indoor bathrooms and water available at the shelter. A playground is available for children. Also there are walking trails, tennis and basketball courts. We will be providing equipment for games if you or your kids are feeling energetic. The party is a little unconventional but our objective is to bring our families and friends together to have some fun on this day that's so important to both of us. We look forward to seeing you all.
